Swan Hills CO2

Unlocking New Opportunities in CO2 Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)

CO2 injection into Conifer’s Swan Hills oil Pools will recover incremental oil and permanently store over 20 years of CO2 emissions from the Swan Hills area. This initiative will support Alberta’s energy transition while extending the life of the field and delivering economic benefits to local communities.

The Judy Creek Beaverhill Lake (BHL) CO2 EOR Project will be the Conifer’s first CO2 project in the Swan Hills area.

CO2 EOR in Swan Hills

How It Works:

Quaternary CO2 EOR

CO2 Injection

Large volumes of CO2 are injected into the reservoir.

Mobilizing Oil

The CO2 displaces oil over a wide area, creating an oil/CO2 bank that moves toward production wells for recovery.

Benefit

Oil produced through CO2 EOR has approximately 37% lower carbon emissions per barrel compared to conventional methods.

Why Swan Hills CO2 EOR Matters

Conifer’s Swan Hills CO2 EOR Project will be more than a resource recovery initiative.

The project will extend the productive life of the fields, creating long-term employment and generating royalties, taxes, and economic benefits for local communities.

By combining innovative oil recovery methods with permanent carbon storage, this project aligns with Alberta’s sustainability goals and contributes to Canada’s energy transition.
